Hey y’all! Kris and I have been married for 10 years, we are passionate followers of Jesus, and this year it looks like we’re voting for different presidential candidates. Are we bothered by this? Nah. Not at all. We enjoy discussing issues that are important to us and sometimes we don’t agree on which leader is the right one to get the job done.
Why doesn’t this bother us? Because we *do* agree on something much more things that are important to us and I want to share a little about that specifically to our fellow Christian friends. Church, i would like to humbly suggest that we set aside “a true Christian could never vote for _____ because _______.” If you believe that to be true then just go ahead and tell me if it’s me or Kris that needs to reconsider their standing with Jesus.
There is someone whose name is not on the ballot that wants to see division in the church this year while many are unable to gather in person. Satan *wants* you to judge your neighbor with a different candidates’ sign in their yard and to build anger in your heart toward your fellow church members who you disagree with. Whoever wins the presidency this year, don’t let Sin win this battle for the church.
The Church needs to be present at this election, this is not one to sit out, but our different life experiences and interpretations of scripture may lead us to vote differently. If that seems abhorrent to you then pause, ask yourself why. More than anything, I want God to move in the church and to make his Kingdom known and maybe, just maybe, our hatred for a political party isn’t as effective as loving our neighbors despite our differences.
