We've a Story to Tell to the Nations

"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."

Matthew 28:19-20

When I was about seven or eight years old, I remember waking up on Sunday mornings and watching “The Hour of Power” with Robert Schuler before actually going to church.  I loved seeing the glorious choir and the magnificent organ being played to its full capacity.  Being exposed to that kind of music at that age probably had a lasting impression on my choice of occupation!

A hymn that they regularly used was “We’ve a Story to Tell to the Nations” and was often the final hymn of the service.  I remember hearing those inspiring words and the march-like tune sent me off to get ready for my own Sunday service.  Here are the words to the first two stanzas:

We’ve a story to tell to the nations,
that shall turn their hearts to the right,
A story of truth and mercy, a story of peace and light,
a story of peace and light.

We’ve a song to be sung to the nations,
that shall lift their hearts to the Lord,
a song that shall conquer evil and shatter the spear and sword,
and shatter the spear and sword.

Chorus:
For the Darkness shall turn to dawning,
and the dawning to noonday bright;
and Christ’s great kingdom shall come on earth,
the kingdom of love and light.

As we emerge from the Pandemic of 2020 and beyond, we have family and friends that have lost much during this time.  Many have lost loved ones, jobs, emotional and financial security and other things.  We may not be able to instantly fix all the problems in the world, but we can do our part by sharing our story… a story of truth and mercy, and peace and light.  Our story begins and ends with Jesus!

Prayer:  Dear God, help us to share your story to everyone we meet.  Help us to never grow weary of telling your story, your song, and your message that we might bring more of your love and light into our world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
