Styles and Smiles | The Bethlehem Center

Over 10 years ago a self-confidence building mission was created for little girls from the Bethlehem Center, a branch of the United Community Centers of Fort Worth. The main focus was manners and teaching good self-esteem. At the end of the 6-week course, the girls presented a style show to an audience of 15. After two years of hosting the style show at the Bethlehem Center, it was moved to Arborlawn and we went from 15 people in attendance to 150 people in attendance.

From beginning to end, the show lasted 10 years and became a huge production with 350 people in attendance, and over 75 people volunteering with one-third of the volunteers being non-Arborlawn members. One of these volunteers was Andrea, who was introduced to Styles & Smiles by one of our Jewish neighbors.

Andrea is now a student at Texas Women’s University working towards her PhD in Psychology and will graduate in 2 years. Andrea and her colleagues in the School of Psychology Graduate Student Organization (SPGSO) at Texas Woman’s University will be reviving the Styles and Smiles event on Friday, July 20 at 7:00 pm at the Bethlehem Center.

It’s so exciting to see a mission our church started come full circle. Andrea and several volunteers from Arborlawn will be selling tickets to this event on Sunday, June 3 and Sunday, July 8 in the Lower Commons.
