Arborlawn Music Ministry

Various Times and Locations

Arborlawn's Music Ministry is as diverse as her membership. Encompassing a kaleidoscope of experiences from Children’s Choirs beginning at age 4 through Chancel Choir for adults, there is a place of service for the entire Arborlawn family. Under the direction of Minister of Music Tom Stoker, the music staff includes Organist/Associate Minister of Music Jerry Westenkuehler, Children’s Music Education Coordinator Jennifer Portele, InSearch worship leader Josh Nix, and Administrative Assistant Karen Gossett. These people, working with an extensive volunteer staff, seek to offer the finest in musical growth opportunities to undergird the worship life of Arborlawn.

Worship is a hallmark of Arborlawn’s ministry, and our instrumentalists, choirs, and ensembles all play an important role as worship leaders. With traditional and contemporary weekly worship, exciting concert offerings with orchestra and organ, liturgical year celebrations, hymn singing, service music, summer music camp for children, and a special July Fourth concert, to name a few, the opportunities for music worship are limitless.

A volunteer and paid staff of trained leaders guides Arborlawn’s children in choirs from preschool through 5th grade. Two enrollment periods are open to church members during the months of September and January. People new to Arborlawn are invited to enroll their children in children’s choirs throughout the school year. The proverb says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Music is a part of the joyous Christian’s life. Children’s choirs help Arborlawn’s children add this exciting dimension to their pilgrimage of faith.

Students and adults are important in music ministry, as well, with choirs and ensembles for both age groups. Our Chancel Choir is growing to meet the responsibility of singing in our new Sanctuary. Cantabile, our choir for 6th through 12th grade students, is a  vital group of young people meeting weekly and singing periodically in worship. The InSearch Praise Team provides dynamic leadership for our contemporary worship service.
